Aura Quartz Explained: Natural Quartz, Manufactured Colour

Aura quartz begins with real quartz, but its rainbow metallic surface is created by a coating process.

Aura quartz begins with real quartz, but its rainbow metallic surface is created by a coating process.

What aura quartz is

Aura quartz is typically natural quartz that has been coated with a very thin layer of metal or metal oxides to create an iridescent surface. Different coating recipes produce different colours.

Is it fake

The quartz may be natural while the surface colour is manufactured. “Treated quartz” is more accurate than forcing the object into a simple real/fake binary.

Why the colour looks different

The metallic coating creates interference colours that can look rainbow, blue, gold or pink. The effect sits on or near the surface rather than being an internal natural colour of quartz.

Care

Coatings can scratch or wear, so avoid abrasives, ultrasonic cleaning and harsh chemicals. Handle by the base when possible.

How it should be sold

A transparent listing says “coated quartz” or “aura-treated quartz”. It should not imply that metallic rainbow quartz grew naturally in that form underground.

How we approach crystal claims

We document traditional and contemporary crystal associations because readers search for them, but we do not present those beliefs as established medical, psychological or financial effects. For care and authenticity questions, mineral identity and treatment history come first.
